India number one or just a fluke

After the south African safari I thought it was not just a fluke that India emerged as the number one test team. But now i think so. Not just because India first two test matches against England, but the way they lost. If you look at the West Indies in the early 70's and Australia from 1996 to 2010, they have dominated the test cricket even when they miss some of the best players. But the current Indian team, because they depend heavily on individuals, they badly miss Shewag, gambhir and Zaheer. To add to that Laxman and Sachin are clearly out of sorts.
Statitics shows why India won many matches abroad last year. Sachin scored at an average of 78.10, Laxman 67.07 and Dravid 42.83, Shewag 61.82.  Current series only Dravid has performed, Shewag is Injured and Sachin and Laxman didnt capitalise the start they got. The important thing that worries is the rest of the players. They should take the reponsibilities when these big guns get out earlier, but they didnt. Look at the averages from the rest of the guys who played test cricket for India in last year. Gambhir- 32.75 in ten test matches, Ms Dhoni- 41.65 in 13 matches, S.Raina- 33.09 in 8 matches and Yuvraj- 23.45 in 3 test. These figures show how much these new bunch of young guns scored in the last succesful year.
From these statitics we can understand that succes India had in the last year is mainly because of Zaheer and Sachins form, add to that rescue work from Laxman who bats at no:5 or 6. But in the first two test against England he batted at no:3, Zaheer was Injured and Sachin was not among runs. This should not be the case for a team who ranks at number one in test. India is not a team which can dominate the test cricket for a long time as winning abroad is still a rare thing for India.
